Marriage is God’s idea and it is holy. The context for all loving, intimate, sexual relationships between one man and one woman is marriage.
God, in his wisdom, created a supernatural dependency that requires humility and sacrifice for relationships to thrive. He asks us to give what doesn’t come naturally, because He wants us to live supernatural lives.
The key to all healthy, growing relationships is submission, not control. Many people struggle to develop healthy relationships because they are afraid, and fear creates control.
We are afraid of being hurt, being known, and being abandon. Why? Because we have been hurt, rejected, and abandoned.
There is no guarantee you won’t be hurt, rejected, or abandoned, but if you live out of fear, you are guaranteed to have shallow, empty relationships. Life-giving relationships requires vulnerability and faith.
With love and respect, we can fight for healthy, life-giving relationships. Remember, it’s not what we do naturally but what we do intentionally that changes things.
