Isaiah 49:1-13
The Answer To “No Peace”

Introduction
1. We have explored the prophecies of Babylon and Cyrus, showing that God knows the future.
These prophecies were 150-170 years before their fulfillment. The ultimate prophecy is that
the Messiah would come: Servant passages (42:1-4) the first and second coming…(49:1-12)
the first and second coming, the Holy One (Messiah), a light to the Gentile nations (6, 12).
2. What is man’s biggest problem? We would have many answers: Communism in America,
Economy, Border Crises, Inflation, the coming collapse of the electric grid, etc.
3. There is no peace for the wicked (those who live without God) (48:22) Man’s biggest problem
is ‘sin’ which produces ‘no peace.’
4. In 49:1-13 God answers the ‘sin problem’ by sending His Servant, Jesus Christ. Have you
answered the “sin” question? Are you struggling with “peace”?
5. Isaiah 49:1-13 Jesus Christ is all you need.

I. THE LOWLY SERVANT 49:1-7
A. His Preparation 1-3
His voice speaks! Unto me.
1. His Concern 1a His concern is not just for the Jew or Israel but Isles, coasts.
Listen! Hearken! You people from afar. The ministry of the Messiah will encompass
the ends of the earth.
There is a God-shaped emptiness in the heart of every person around the world. Jesus
Christ is the only one that can fill that emptiness. This Servant is for all mankind!
2. His Calling 1b From the womb…from the body of my mother hath He made
mention of my name. This is more than the nation of Israel, verse 3. From the womb
speaks of a child that is to be born. This is the Messiah!
A virgin shall conceive and bring forth a son. He will be called, Immanuel (God
with us.) (Is. 7:14) For unto us a child is born unto us a son is given (God/man) (Is.
9:6)
3. His Concealment 2 A mouth like a sharp sword…The Sermon on the Mt. (Mt.
6) You generation of vipers…You white washed sepulchers…You are of your father
the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the
beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he
speaks a lie, he speaks of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies. (John 8:44)
Hidden Me…the Servant has all the potential, but that potential is veiled. He was a
carpenter’s son. God walked in the robe of humanity!
4. His Commission 3 (42:1) (John 13:31-32) Is this the Messiah speaking? God
said to me…Israel…5, 6 How can Israel restore Israel? (Isaiah 48:1) gives a
clue…Isaiah confronts: Israel had failed historically and no longer lived up to their
name. Is the purpose of God defeated? NO! God provides a substitute for Israel, who
lives up to the name? JESUS CHRIST! In whom God will be glorified. Jesus said, I
have glorified thee…now glorify Me.
B. His Pleasure 4-5
1. Seeming Failure 4
Jesus, the God/Man labored which means to grow weary. How can God get tired? I
have labored in vain. The desired results were not achieved. Jesus was tested in all
points like us…Jesus was despised and rejected. “My God, My God, why hast thou
forsaken Me?” In all of His set backs He trusted God. He left His life and results in
God’s hands…My work with God.
2. Solid Faithfulness 5 Far from failing…He is the Savior of the world! Bring
Jacob again to Him has not yet happened…though Israel be not gathered. This
looks to the Second Coming. He will be vindicated! All His service was
rejected…He brought honor and glory to God (John 12:28)…My God shall be My
strength!
C. His Program 6
1. The Servant’s work is greater than redemption and the restoration of
Israel. A light thing is to restore Jacob. Messiah is something greater. I will give
light to the Gentiles!
2. You will be my salvation unto the end of the earth. SALVATION IS FOR THE
WORLD! I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in
darkness, but will have the light of life. (John 8:12)
D. His Pre-eminence 7
The Servant who will restore the preserved of Israel and be a light to the Gentiles:
Jesus Christ in His first and second coming.
1.His Rejection By Men 7a Holy One…Redeemer Him whom the nation abhors…He came unto His own and His own received Him not.
A servant of rulers…this is the way Jesus identified himself with the nation of Israel. He subjected Himself to Rome, Pilate, Herod, the Sanhedrin: Annas, Caiaphas…He died!
2.His Reign Over Men 7b At His Second Coming Jesus will reign: At the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God (Phil 2:10,11)

II. HIS LIFTED SERVANT 49:8-13
The day of Israel’s salvation is yet future.
A. His Dynamics 8 Who He Is
He is God/Man!
1.Speaking of the Gospel this is partially quoted in (II Cor. 6:2) Behold, NOW is the accepted time…NOW, today is the day of salvation.
2.What will God do with Messiah? I will preserve thee…I will give Jesus Christ for a covenant of the people. It means to establish…to cause…through Him liberation/regathering. The fulfillment of God’s covenant will rest on Christ!
B. His Duty 9-12 What He Does
What He does for Israel, He will do for you!
1. Release 9a Prisoners go forth
2. Refresh 9b-10a They shall feed
3. Rest 10b Neither shall heat smite thee
4. Rely 10c Lead…Guide
5. Remove 11 I will make my mountain a way…my highway shall be exalted.
6. Restore 12 Scattered Israel returns.
C. His Delight 13 How Should We Respond?
