Manteno Baseball/Softball Equipment Exchange
It is our 2nd year of partnering with the Manteno Youth Baseball/Softball Association with the goal of helping local kids access the equipment they need to play. As such, we are looking for equipment. Between now and February 27, containers will be available outside the church and at the Manteno Public Library to drop off used bats, gloves, shoes, helmets, bags, and pants. We will collect and clean the equipment. On Saturday, March 4, from 9am-12pm, we will have a free exchange at the church for the community. So, start cleaning out your garage and let your old equipment bless a new player!

Faith Promise
Last week was our annual Faith Promise Sunday. If you have turned in a pledge card, thank you! Some missed the opportunity and wondered how to get their pledge in. You can do that online, http://bit.ly/3Sl3e0O , or pick up a card at the welcome desk. Everything that is raised through Faith Promise goes directly to the global mission of the Church of the Nazarene to make Christlike disciples in the nations. The majority of these funds help pay the salaries of the more than 700 missionaries working in 164 world areas in more than 200 languages and fund new church starts, resources, publications, and the administrative efforts of the Church of the Nazarene Global Ministries Center. In addition, your Faith Promise giving supports Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, World Mission Broadcast, Nazarene Theological Seminary, Nazarene Bible College as well as other special projects. These pledges run from now until this time next year. To fulfill your weekly, monthly or one-time pledge, simply mark your check, envelope, or online giving.

Love Lifted Me
Expand
Verse 1
I was sinking deep in sin
Far from the peaceful shore
Very deeply stained within
Sinking to rise no more
But the Master of the sea
Heard my despairing cry
From the waters lifted me
Now safe am I

Chorus
Love lifted me
Love lifted me
When nothing else could help
Love lifted me
(REPEAT)

Verse 2
All my heart to Him I give
Ever to Him I'll cling
In His blessed presence live
Ever His praises sing
Love so mighty and so true
Merits my soul's best songs
Faithful loving service too
To Him belongs

Verse 3
Souls in danger look above
Jesus completely saves
He will lift you by His love
Out of the angry waves
He's the Master of the sea
Billows His will obey
He your Savior wants to be
Be saved today

Two Trees: Wise In Our Own Eyes
Genesis 3:1-7, 21-24
February 26, 2023

wisdom: n. the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment

Proverbs 4:7
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom.

Proverbs 3:1-2
My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.

Proverbs 3:5-7
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.

Proverbs 3:19-20
By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; by his knowledge the watery depths were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew.

Proverbs 3:21-22
My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you…

Proverbs 3:18
[Wisdom] is a tree of life to those who take hold of her.

Genesis 2:8-9
Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 2:16-17
And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

Genesis 3:1-5
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

A test becomes a temptation when Satan gets involved.

“Your eyes will be opened.”
“God didn’t really mean what you heard him say.”
“It’ll be fine just this once.”

Genesis 3:6
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.

Genesis 3:7-8
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God…

Do not be wise in your own eyes.
Proverbs 3:7

Genesis 3:15
“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Genesis 3:21-24
The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

Proverbs 3:25-26
Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.
Graves Into Gardens
Expand
Verse 1
I searched the world but it couldn't fill me
Man's empty praise and treasures that fade
Are never enough
Then You came along and put me back together
And every desire is now satisfied here in Your love

Chorus
Oh there's nothing better than You
There's nothing better than You
Lord there's nothing
Nothing is better than You

Verse 2
I'm not afraid to show You my weakness
My failures and flaws
Lord You've seen them all
And You still call me friend
'Cause the God of the mountain
Is the God of the valley
There's not a place
Your mercy and grace won't find me again

Bridge
You turn mourning to dancing
You give beauty for ashes
You turn shame into glory
You're the only one who can

Bridge
You turn graves into gardens
You turn bones into armies
You turn seas into highways
You're the only one who can
