When the Scriptures talk about money, it has everything to do with your devotion
Do I put my dependence and trust in God? Or do I put my dependence and trust in my finances?
Matthew 6:21
Your heart will always be where your treasure is. CEV
The chief competitor for your devotion is money
Jesus said in Luke 16:11 If you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth (money), who will trust you with true riches? NIV
Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. NIV
Matthew 6:24
You cannot be the slave of two masters! You will like one more than the other or be more loyal to one than the other. You cannot serve both God and money. CEV
Matthew 6:24
You cannot serve both God and Money. NIV
Who will get your devotion?
The devil tries to kill, steal and destroy you (John 10:10)
The devil uses money to destroy you
There are two ditches on either side of the road to financial freedom
The ditch of consumption
The ditch of hoarding
The consumption ditch is filled with debt
Hoarding: “What about?” What if?”
The consumer and hoarder are both self-centered
Greed: I assume it is all for me to consume
The subtly of greed: We believe in Jesus but live like we don’t trust Jesus
Greedy people invite God into their financial problems
God is the backup financial plan for greedy people
God wants to be our first plan (Master, ruler)
Luke 6:46
Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? NIV
Mastering the money monster: A habit you develop utilizing 3 buckets
3 Buckets: give, save, live
First Bucket: Give a percentage away first
Second Bucket: Save a percentage for your future
Third Bucket: Live on the remainder
Give, Save, Live
