Jesus Was Lonely Too.

Jesus gets what it's like to be let down by humans.
In Matthew 26:36-75 we see Judas betray him, the rest of the disciples desert him, and then Peter denies ever knowing him.
Notice the word and theme of "with" in this chapter
vs. 18-20 - Desire to eat Passover meal with his disciples
vs. 29 - Promise to eat with them in the future kingdom
vs. 35 - They all claim they'll die with him
vs. 38 - Jesus asks them to keep watch with him
**notice at the end of the chapter that Peter is twice accused of being "with" Jesus - which he denies

Jesus doesn't just get our loneliness and let down. He shows us how to deal with it. How to prepare for it.
Mark 1:35-39
35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”
38 Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” 39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
Luke 5:16
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Jesus grounded himself in times alone with his Father. This reminded him of his identity and purpose. It kept him in communion with his Father.
The antidote to true loneliness is to spend time alone with God.
(Caveat: This is not to say we don't need human connection. We need each other and without human connection we'll experience a type of loneliness. But it's nothing compared to the loneliness we experience when we aren't connected to God.)

JESUS RESCUES US FROM OUR LONELINESS
Mark 1:40-45
40 A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”
41 Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.
43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: 44 “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” 45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.

36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

my precious life from the power of the dogs.
21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions;
save me from the horns of the wild oxen.
22 I will declare your name to my people;
in the assembly I will praise you.
23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!
All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!
Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
24 For he has not despised or scorned
the suffering of the afflicted one;
he has not hidden his face from him
but has listened to his cry for help.
25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly;
before those who fear you I will fulfill my vows.
26 The poor will eat and be satisfied;
those who seek the Lord will praise him—
may your hearts live forever!
27 All the ends of the earth
will remember and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
will bow down before him,
28 for dominion belongs to the Lord
and he rules over the nations.
29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship;
all who go down to the dust will kneel before him—
those who cannot keep themselves alive.
30 Posterity will serve him;
future generations will be told about the Lord.
31 They will proclaim his righteousness,
declaring to a people yet unborn:
He has done it!
