Psalm 139:23
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious
thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. NLT
Criticism is not the same as accountability.
The bad habit of criticism makes us unattractive and we destroy others
Galatians 5:14
The whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” NLT
Galatians 5:15
If you are always biting and devouring (criticize and attack - GWT) one
another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another. NLT
Galatians 5:15
But if you act like wild animals, hurting and harming each other, then watch
out, or you will completely destroy one another. GNT
Proverbs 12:18
Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing. NLT
Ephesians 4:29
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is
helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
A single word of criticism can pierce a soul and can cause a lifetime of pain
A single word of encouragement can positively impact a life (build up, give faith, bring healing)
I SEE IN YOU......
You can be a life-taker or you a life-giver
Life-takers are FAULT FINDERS
The devil is the accuser (Revelation 12:10)
We criticize because of our pride
We criticize because of our insecurity
We criticize because we do not understand
Give people the benefit of the doubt
Life-givers are GRACE DISPENSERS
Ephesians 3:2
Surely you have heard about the administration (stewardship, dispensation) of God’s grace that was given to me for you. NIV
1 Peter 4:10
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as
faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. NIV
1 Peter 4:10
As good servant managers of God's grace in its various forms, serve one
another with the gift each of you has received. ISV.
Notorious fault finders: The Pharisees
Being a critical fault finder is easy and lazy
James 4:11
Do not criticize one another, my friends. GNT
We dispense God’s grace
