When you put this lens of Jesus being misunderstood onto the gospels, you see it everywhere.
Jesus is a walking misunderstanding.

A few examples
- Luke 2 - 12 year old Jesus in the temple
- Mark 8 - The disciples and the bread
- Mark 8:32 - Disciples don't understand that Jesus is going to die

---
Have you ever been misunderstood/mocked/rejected for an idea, change, vision or something new you wanted to do?

Ever feel like there’s something in you that wants to find expression and no one else gets it?

Jesus understands the feeling of having something good and beautiful in you that you want to bring into the world that is constantly misunderstood.

John had a great way of putting it: John 1:5
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome/understand/take hold of it.

Jesus gets’ what it’s like to be light in the darkness.

---
Kingdom Message was constantly misunderstood/mocked/rejected

- Family thought he was crazy - Mark 3:20
- This man welcomes and eats with sinners and tax collectors - Luke 15:2
- Parable of the workers hired at different parts of the day - Matt 20:1-16
- Mocked - John 2:19-21
- Hated for claiming to be "I am" - John 8:48-59

---
Jesus gets that you may not get/understand Him
From the cross - "Father forgive them" - Luke 23:34

Jesus gets what it's like to be misunderstood. But the best less is not just to see him as inspiration. But to join his vision. To be misunderstood for what he was misunderstood for. To be light in the darkness like he was. To be the light of the world like he was.

John 8:12 – "I am the light of the world."
Matthew 5:14-16 – You are the Light of the world.

We never quite leave high-school

Peter afraid to eat with gentiles when some Jewish people show up.
Galatians 2:11-13
11 But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong. 12 When he first arrived, he ate with the Gentile believers, who were not circumcised. But afterward, when some friends of James came, Peter wouldn’t eat with the Gentiles anymore. He was afraid of criticism from these people who insisted on the necessity of circumcision. 13 As a result, other Jewish believers followed Peter’s hypocrisy, and even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.

Who can you love/serve with the same radical inclusion of Jesus?
What truth can you stand up for in a world where truth has become relative?

---
It's worth being misunderstood to bring light to others.

Paul - 1 Corinthians 9:19-22
19 Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21 To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.

As you are misunderstood, mocked, mistreated and rejected for His kingdom, know, that he gets you, and you’re right where you wants you to be.
And even better, he’s right there with you.
