In the previous chapter, we are told that Jesus is not an angel, he is higher than the angels—he is God.

If Jesus is God, how much more so should we listen to his teachings than to the teachings of the law which were delivered by angels.

Therefore, we must hold fast to what we have been taught, so that we do not fall away.

Who is mankind that God is mindful of them?

What does it mean that God has put everything under their feet?

To answer these questions we need to look back at the book of Genesis.

Who is man?
God’s Creation
Created in his image.
Created to rule and subdue the earth.

Why isn’t this happening at the present time?

Because of the fall, sin and death entered our world.

When Adam sinned death entered the world.

His sin brought death, so death spread to everyone for everyone sinned.

Jesus was the pioneer, champion or forerunner of our salvation. The one who brought salvation and made a way for us to reconcile with God where there was none.

He was perfect through what he suffered because he was fully God and fully human.

We are children of God, Created in the image of God, brothers and sisters of and in Christ.

The word for atonement here means to make reconciliation.

Because he was fully God and fully Human Jesus alone could make proper atonement (or reconciliation between God and humanity) for our sins.
