The word “tithe” literally means tenth or 10%. Tithing, or giving ten percent of your income, isn’t merely giving something to God. It’s giving back what was his to begin with. All that we have, or hope to have, comes from him. The Bible says that tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything. It teaches us to always put God first in our lives. Title: christmas22 week 2 online
Last week:
•Peace isn’t found in the absence of problems.
•True peace is found in the presence of God.
•If you are on a continuous search to be offended, you will always find what you’re looking for.
The landscape of faith, especially the political landscape, has become so toxic and abusive over recent years that we are just weary. Because of this, I worry that many Christians have taken our cues from culture rather than Christ, so that when it comes to how we live our faith at the table, we look less and less like our Father. ~ Albert Tate/Fellowship Church
Until we let go of our infatuation with winning, we will continue to be divided. We will continue responding to culture and change as if we have no choice but to play by the rules of the kingdoms of this world. Consequently, we will continue to be used, leveraged, and ultimately, ignored. ~ Andy Stanley/North Point Ministries
"I wrote fairy tales because the Fairy Tale seemed the ideal form for the stuff I had to say…I thought I saw how stories of this kind could steal past a certain inhibition which had paralyzed much of my own religion in childhood. Why did one find it so hard to feel as one was told one ought to feel about God or about the sufferings of Christ?…But supposing that by casting all these things into an imaginary world, striping them of their stained-glass and Sunday school associations, one could make them for the first time appear in their real potency? Could one not thus steal past those watchful dragons? I thought one could."
C.S. Lewis
On Other Stories: And Other Essays on Literature
“Aslan is a lion-the Lion, the great Lion!”
“Ohh” said Susan. “I’d thought he was a man. Is he—quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion.”
“Safe?” Said Mr. Beaver, “ Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe, But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.
Mr. Tumnus also says “He’s wild, you know. Not a tame Lion.”
•Being offended is inevitable. Living offended is a choice.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:14-18 NIV
blessed—to speak well of, to wish the best blessings for someone.
… in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1 NIV
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud … Do not be conceited.
Romans 12:16 NIV
•Jesus didn’t tell us to be right. He told us to be loving.
… Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Ephesians 4:2 NLT
•Your life is too short and your calling too great to be offended by something small!
A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense. Proverbs 19:11 NIV
•Love doesn’t seek to win the argument. Love seeks to protect the relationship.
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Romans 12:18 NIV
