Matthew 2:1–2 (ESV) - Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

3. Object of Heavenly Adoration – verse 2; line 1 (Revelation 5:11-14)
Christ, by highest Heav’n adored; Christ the everlasting Lord;

Revelation 5:11–14 (ESV) - Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” 13And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” 14And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped.
4. The Everlasting Lord – verse 2; line 1 (Isaiah 9:6-7; Hebrews 13:8)
Christ, by highest Heav’n adored; Christ the everlasting Lord;

Isaiah 9:6–7 (ESV) - For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
5. Virgin Birth – verse 2; line 2 (Matthew 1:18-23)
Late in time, behold Him come, Offspring of a virgin’s womb.

Matthew 1:20-23 (ESV) - Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit…22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
6. He’s the God-Man – verse 2; line 3 (John 1:14; 14:9; Colossians 1:15, 19-20)
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; Hail th’incarnate Deity,

Colossians 1:19–20 (ESV) - For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Hail the heav’nly Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness!

Isaiah 9:6 (ESV) - For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Come, Desire of nations, come, Fix in us Thy humble home;

Haggai 2:7 (KJV) - And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: And I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts.
10. The Woman’s Conquering Seed – verse 4; line 2 (Genesis 3:15; Hebrews 2:14)
Rise, the woman’s conqu’ring Seed, Bruise in us the serpent’s head.

Genesis 3:15 (ESV) - I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
11. Adam’s Likeness…Second Adam – verse 5; lines 1-4 (Romans 5:14, 17)
Adam’s likeness, Lord, efface (eradicate), Stamp Thine image in its place:
Second Adam from above, Reinstate us in Thy love.
Let us Thee, though lost, regain, Thee, the Life, the inner man:
Oh, to all Thyself impart, Formed in each believing heart.

Romans 5:14, 17 (ESV) - Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come…17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
Why has the baby come?

1. To reconcile sinners to a holy God – verse 1; line 2 (Romans 5:6, 8; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21)
Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!”

2 Corinthians 5:17–21 (ESV) - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2. To dwell with us / live close to us – verse 2; line 4 (Matthew 1:23; John 1:14)
Pleased with us in flesh to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel.

Light and life to all He brings, Ris’n with healing in His wings.

John 8:12 (ESV) - Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
4. To give us eternal life through the second birth – verse 3; line 3 and 4 (John 3:3, 16; 17:3)
Mild He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die;
Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth.
