What does “HOPE” mean to you?


Hope is the belief that if __________________ occurs, I will be satisfied and safe.

Hopelessness of our Time

(Psalm 20:7) Some trust in chariots and some in horses,but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.


Some trust in chariots; some trust in …

1 – Events – “If only _________ happened …”

2 – Possessions – “If only I had ___________ …”

3 – People – “If only they would _____________ …”

4 – Circumstances – “If only I were ______________ …”

3 Ways to Find Hope:

1) We look back in Celebration.

(John 1:14) And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (ESV)


(John 1:14) The Word became flesh and blood,and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes,the one-of-a-kind glory,like Father, like Son,Generous inside and out,true from start to finish.(MSG)


God is always doing so much more than you think He is!

2) We look forward in Anticipation

(John 14:1-3) “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”


(Revelation 22:12-13) Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.


(Revelation 22:17) The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!”


(Revelation 22:20) He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

Find your comfort in Jesus

3) We join in the Participation


Advent prepares not just for the first coming of Christ to Israel, or even the second at the end of time. There is a third coming between these two
in which Jesus comes in spirit and power for our rest and consolation.
