Philippians 1:6 (ESV) And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Colossians 1:15-18 (NKJV) He [Christ] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
Colossians 2:6-9 (ESV) As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
Revelation 13:8 (NIV) the Lamb, slain from the foundation of the world …
1. All we have is today.
Hebrews 3:7-14 (ESV) Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’ As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’” Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.
Matthew 6:34 (NIV) Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Psalms 84:10 (NLT) A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.
2. Every day is a gift.
2 Peter 3:8 (NCV) But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: To the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years is as one day.
3. Eternity is at stake.
2 Timothy 1:12 (NCV) I know Jesus, the One in whom I have believed. And I am sure he is able to protect what he has trusted me with until that Day.
Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV) And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
4. Don’t chase rabbits, pursue the Lamb.
Philippians 3:14, 20 (ESV) I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus … (verse 20) our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ …
5. Paul’s everyday goal was to pursue eternal life through Christ and to await His return.
Philippians 1:6 (ESV)And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
