ECC-Evangelical Covenant Church
Let Us Walk in the Light of the Lord
Welcome to ECC! It's that time of year again. The time when we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of Christ by journeying through the Season of Advent together. During Advent, we look back to Christ's First Coming, anticipate his Second Coming, and learn to live life with him as he comes to us each day. Thanks for joining us! We worship together each Sunday morning at 10:30am on YouTube, on our Worship page (ecclife.net/worship), or in person.

Let Us Walk in the Light of the Lord
November 27, 2022
First Sunday of Advent
Pastor Stacey Littlefield
Write your main take away from this week's sermon below:
A question to ponder.
What is your experience with the Season of Advent? Did you grow up with some familiarity with it (and the Church Calendar Year) or is it completely new to you? Or somewhere in between? Given that it developed, in part, as a teaching tool to an illiterate population, what do you think of it and its potential as a teaching tool today?
A question to ponder.
Read Isaiah 2.1-5. While this passage is not overtly about the promise of the Messiah, in what ways can you see this passage leading us to Jesus?
A question to ponder.
What do you think it means to "walk in the light of the Lord" or to "put on the armor of light"? What might these things look like in your life and relationships this week and beyond? What kind of person would you become? How might this impact your world?
A question to ponder.
Read Romans 13.9-14. What do you think Paul means when he says, "...love is the fulfillment of the law" (v.10). What do you think this might look like, practically speaking? How would or should it impact the way we live and seek to follow Jesus in the world?

We need to help teach each other new ways to solve our problems through relationship, dialogue, and alternative means of justice."

Prayer for the First Sunday of Advent
Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
