https://hmcworship.com/im-new/Throughout this sermon series we are looking at 4 examples of parenting in God’s Word. In this passage of God’s Word, we see Samuel handing over the leadership of Israel. As he does, he gives Israel one last message. Although not perfect, by taking a look at this last message that Samuel has for Israel, we can learn how we can leave a legacy of faith to our children:
1. Prioritize your parenting
1 Sam. 8:1-5, Ps. 127:3, 1 Tim. 5:8, Titus 1:5-6
2. Address any wrongdoings
1 Sam. 12:1-2, 1 John 1:9, James 5:16
3. Restore any wrongdoings
1 Sam. 12:3-5, Rom. 8:1, 2 Cor. 5:17
4. Remember what God has done
1 Sam. 12:6-12, Josh. 4:20-24, Deut. 6:6-9
5. Help your kids love and serve God
1 Sam. 12:13-18, Matt. 28:19-20, Prov. 22:6, 15
6. Continually pray
1 Sam. 12:19-25, Phil. 4:6, 1 Thess. 5:17, Eph. 6:18

Reflection Questions
1. If you’ve been following along since week 1, write down those names of kids in your life and pray for them. If you haven’t followed along, where are you in the scope of parenting? Are you a parent? Grandparent? Future parent? Are you a support of other parents by being an uncle, aunt, a cousin, friend, teacher, mentor, ect.? Take some time to jot down those specific names down and pray for those kids.
2. Of the 6 things we highlighted out of Samuel’s farewell address, which one do you do the best? Which one do you need to work on the most? What practical steps can you take to work on that?
3. Do some dreaming. What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? What specific things do you want to hand down to the generations behind you in order that they would grow God’s Kingdom here on earth? Ex. faith, finances, skills, property, ect.
4. Looking at your answers from question #3, what practical steps do you need to take to accomplish that?
5. What is your biggest take away from this sermon series? What did God teach you? Do you feel led to put anything into action? If so, what, and what practical step(s) do you need to take to be obedient to what God has led you to do? Who can keep you accountable to accomplishing this?
