Jesus describes four hearts in this scripture: the hardened heart, the shallow heart, the crowded heart, and the open heart. God’s word is the seed; the same seed can produce no fruit or much fruit depending on the soil of our hearts.
The condition of our hearts determines the size of our harvest. If you are not happy with the fruit of your life, then change your heart. Our growth, maturity, and fruitfulness all stem from our response to God’s word.
We change our hearts by changing our response to God’s word. His word is spirit and life. If we receive the word, we receive spirit and life; if we reject His word, we receive death.
Changing isn’t about stopping; it’s about receiving the truth of God’s word. The more word you receive, the more fruitful your life will be. The more word you receive, the more you are able to receive.
So, how do we know when we have received the word?
We know we have believed/received the word when we obey it. Faith without works is dead; the fruit of faith is obedience. One of the greatest deceptions in the church is self- deception; we know the word of God, but we don’t obey it.
