Asking the Right Question
As John returns from Sabbatical he has a two week series on Luke 10:25-42 before we launch our Advent series. The two stories in this section may be familiar or completely unknown to you, but regardless of familiarity level, may we approach the Scripture with humility, expectation and joy as we allow it to speak to us and show us how we can Treasure God more and more!

Take Time to Be a Good Samaritan
Why didn't the priest and Levite stop when they SAW the man on the ground? What were they thinking? Surely we would stop right? The difference between stopping and not might be simpler than we think - one significant step is reducing busy-ness in our lives.

Compassion for Foster Children (Stand Sunday)
In 2004, Bishop Aaron Blake, Sr. initiated the first “Stand Sunday” in the United States, calling the families at his home church in Brownwood, Texas to stand-up to care for children and families impacted by the child welfare system.
Today, churches across the nation join forces on Stand Sunday to declare war on inaction when it comes to children and families facing abuse, abandonment, and neglect.

In 2022 we've been challenged as a church to love our Ukrainian neighbors as they've relocated to NP. For those who have come and those who will, we have established a fund to compassionately care. Moreover, as we anticipate the Sustainable Beef plant opening in the coming years we want to be ready with resources (think oil, wine, bandages from the story) with which we can provide compassionate care as needed. Would you consider giving to our Refugee/Immigrant fund as the year draws to a close?

Talk It Over
Visit npberean.org/grow-groups to find a group, start a group, or get more resources.
• What was one thing from this week’s gathering that impacted/challenged me?
• Treasuring God: How would I describe, in my own words, what Christ has done for me? How does that change my view of God?
• Being Transformed: What does this passage surface from within me, that I need Jesus’ help to change?
• Loving Others: Who is a “neighbor” that I have recently “passed by on the other side?” What step can I take to move toward them this week?
• Pursuing Unity: What can we do together to grow in our “neighborliness” toward others?

Next Week's Sermon
While on sabbatical (which was such a blessing - thank you for allowing him to take that time), John sensed this passage was a "must preach" for when he returned. We've just talked today about serving others with compassionate hearts, but can we over-serve? Distraction, anxiety and a troubled spirit are three cues to our soul that we might be serving having left out the most important part - the part we'll talk about next week.
