God the Father's Authority: Have We Lost It?

Matthew 28:18-19

A. God's Authoritative Nature

1. Jesus' authority (power) is given.

Philippians 2:8-9

2. Jesus' authority includes:

a. The power to rule and reign

Philippians 2:10-11

b. The power to govern

Romans 13:1

c. The power to forgive sins, to judge, and to save.

John 5:17

B. People's Unreliable Nature

1. Mimetic mentality vs. poietic mentality

2. Prosthetic gods

3. Unsettled identities

C. How Do We Make Disciples of This Nation?

1. Listening is louder than speaking.

2. Turn anger into interest.

3. Never separate the person from the argument.
Arguing is never about the idea,
it’s always about the person.

4. Never forget the point.
Being right is secondary, Jesus is primary.

5. It is never about building our kingdom, but always about multiplying God’s.

Bottom Line: The church is an institution of authority while ministering to a deinstitutionalized culture of choice.
