What words or ideas stand out to you in Psalm 34?

https://www.menti.com/al9fmy6r9b2z
Psalm 16 (what you worship defines you)
Psalm 19 (grounding and God's moral universe),
Psalm 23 (lacking nothing, company in the dark and the incredible future), Psalm 27 (what you focus on).
Psalm 32 (the grace and forgiveness of God)
Psalm 33 Our hope is in God

Today we talk about the need to talk about what it means to look for help in the darkest of times
When our lives are in other people's hands it can feel scary
When life is throwing you curveballs and people seem against you, God is ready to deliver you from your troubles.

In verse 4, The term translated “sought” (drš) is never used of seeking someone or something whose location is unknown. When one seeks God in this fashion, one does so knowing full well where he is, but is seeking either a restored relationship with him or, most commonly, information, guidance, or direction from him.
We are invited to measure life with God against life without God

Jesus came to respond to the universal human need to know how to live well. He came to show us how, through reliance on him, we can best live in the universe as it really is. That is why he said, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (Jn 10:10). His supremacy lies in the greatness of the life he gives to us. Putting Jesus Christ into a worldwide competition with all known alternatives is the only way we can give our faith a chance to prove his power over the whole of life.
Dallas Willard - Hearing God
Refuge means shelter from the storm
The word for "seek" is the same as the word for "sought" in verse 4

Fearing the Lord is not how we would use the word, fear. it means reverence.
Revering God means making his priorities your priorities
God cares about the vulnerable
The bible makes clear that evil has it‘s own consequences.

God is always ready to rescue you here and now, and we can look forward to the ultimate rescue.

The central difference between being renewed every day in the face of the troubles of life and losing heart is about where you fix your eyes.
Small Group Questions:

1) Have someone read Psalm 34 and talk about what parts stand out to each person

2) In what ways have you sought the Lord?

3)We are invited to Taste and see that the Lord is good. Where do you see God’s goodness?

4) Have someone read the Dallas Willard quote. What response do you have? What are some of the worldviews that Christians find hardest to let go of?

5) Have there been times when you felt crushed in spirit? Did you experience God’s closeness in those moments? What was it like?
