Building Blocks - Week 3 - Pastor Nick Grim
We're journeying through the book of Galatians together and this week we will be looking at chapter 3.
As we have looked at the Gospel, and then last week we looked at identity, and that Nothing else defines us but Jesus. This week we are going to dive into Faith.
Before we dive to far into our message hear this:
1. God has a message for you not the person that is not here.
2. Let God speak to you not me.
3. If God asks you to live differently today do something about it. Remember that little changes are what creates growth in Jesus
Have you ever come to a middle of the road decision?
True faith defines our life.
Galatians 3:7-14 Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.
What is something that you get the blessing from and you had nothing to do with?
God’s gift came through Abraham
:10-12 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.”
What does the law have to do with faith?
***Law is asking the question: Am I doing the right thing and are others around me doing the right thing?
***Faith is loving God so much you beg the question “What is required of me now?” And then waiting for the answer.
Questions we need to ask:
How do you want me to worship you?
What do you want me to do?
Who do I need to reach?
What do I need to trust you with?
What do you want me to give up?
Who do I need to forgive?
What do I need to ask forgiveness for?
Matthew 6:9-13“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
So many times we are trying to do the next best thing
We live in an earn what you get society and we think that’s the way God is
What does the law have to do with faith?
Galatians 3:13-14 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.
The law points to you are not good enough
Christ points to I took the curse from you
Through our King you receive: GRACE
You can not be saved until you recognize Jesus as king and he took the curse for you
What do we need to do?
Stop living in a works based mindset
Works based statement “If I do this I will be blessed”
Live in a faith based mindset.
Faith based statement “If I do this I will please God”
True faith defines our life!
