https://hmcworship.com/im-new/Throughout this sermon series we will look at 4 examples of parenting in God’s Word. In this passage of God’s Word, we see one of the rare good examples of parenting. By taking a look at Hannah’s story in this passage of Scripture, we can realize 3 essential truths of parenting:
1. You don’t own your kids, God does
1 Sam. 1:17-28, Ez. 18:4, Ps. 24:1, Deut. 10:4, Ex. 19:5
2. Parenting well, means letting go well
1 Sam. 1:22-23, Gen. 2:24, Prov. 22:6, 29:15, Ecc. 3:4
3. Parenting is deeply emotional, and that’s ok
1 Sam. 1:7-16, Prov. 10:1, Eph. 4:26-27, John 11:35

Reflection Questions
1. If you’ve been following along since week 1, write down those names of kids in your life. If you haven’t followed along, where are you in the scope of parenting? Are you a parent? Grandparent? Future parent? Are you a support of other parents by being an uncle, aunt, a cousin, friend, teacher, mentor, ect.? Take some time to jot down those specific names down.
2. In this story, Hannah is exceptional at realizing that her child is not her own… he is the Lord’s. She realizes that God has a plan for her child. How well do you recognize that your children are not your own, but God’s?
3. Read Ezekiel 18:4 and Ephesians 2:10. How are you preparing your children for what God has prepared for them? How can you do that better?
4. What is your biggest take away from this passage of God’s Word? What did God teach you? Do you feel led to put anything into action? If so, what, and what practical step(s) do you need to take to be obedient to what God has led you to do? Who can keep you accountable to accomplishing this?

Operation Christmas Child
It is Operation Christmas Child time once again! OCC is an organization that sends shoeboxes filled with necessities, toys, and the gospel message to those children around the world who may not otherwise receive a gift or hear the gospel message. Please consider filling a shoe box this year. There is a table set up by the welcome center where you can pick up a shoebox to fill, an idea sheet of what to put in your box, and spiritual impact stories. You can also see an example box of what the children filled during our VBS month. Boxes are due November 13th.
Foster Family Baskets
Our foster closet team is putting together Christmas baskets for all of the foster families in the Josiah White’s South Bend office, located on the lower level of our building. Please prayerfully consider donating towards these baskets to help offset the cost of these baskets to our foster closet. If you have any questions or would like to help put these baskets together, please see April Rollf.
