As followers of Jesus, our most important pursuit is not to keep up on what is politically correct, but on what is biblically correct.
A biblical perspective does not give license to disrespect and dishonor others in our speech.
What is biblical masculinity and femininity?

Genesis 1:26–31 (ESV) - Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Qualities of God’s image we represent:

1. Authority - ruling over creation (Ps. 8:5-8)

2. Spiritual likeness – eternal, the soul

3. Intellectual likeness – cognitive abilities, think, reason, language, ingenuity, imagination

4. Volitional likeness – desire, choice, will (not just instincts)

5. Emotional likeness – feeling, affection

6. Moral likeness – discern right and wrong
You are human. Therefore, you possess/bear/carry the image of God.

Only humanity bears the image of God.
Possessing the image of God is innate/inborn/intrinsic/inherent – outside of one’s choice, it is predetermined by God.
The distinguishing mark is not…
1. Being formed out of the dust of the ground is not the distinguishing mark of humanity.

Genesis 2:7 (ESV) - …then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

Genesis 2:19 (ESV) - Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.

2. The breath of life is not the distinguishing mark of humanity.

Genesis 2:7 (ESV) - …then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

Genesis 1:30 (ESV) - And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
The distinguishing mark is not…
3. Male and female is not the distinguishing mark of humanity.

Genesis 1:21–26 (ESV) - So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”
23And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. 24And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. 25And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 26Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Genesis 2:22–25 (ESV) - And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” 24Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
What is the distinguishing mark of humanity?

The image of God is the distinguishing mark of all humanity – male and female.
