The Struggle of Prayer of Our Calling [Sunday, October 9, 2022] Greg Burlile

Romans 15:30-33

Paul’s Urgent Prayer Request
Romans 15:30 ESV
30 I appeal to you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf,

Philippians 2:1-2 ESV
1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
Prayer is a Spiritual “Struggle”
Romans 15:30 ESV
30 I appeal to you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf,

Colossians 4:12 ESV
Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always struggling [wrestling] on your behalf in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.

Colossians 2:1 ESV
2 For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face,

Ephesians 6:11-12 ESV
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:18-20 ESV
18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel,
20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
Paul’s Specific Request
Romans 15:31-32 ESV
31 that I may be delivered from the unbelievers in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints,
32 so that by God's will I may come to you with joy and be refreshed in your company.

An Application of Paul’s Prayer Today
We should pray that Christian leaders might be rescued from the opposition of outsiders who try to destroy their ministry.

We should pray that Christian leaders might find that their Christian service is acceptable to those to whom they minister.
God’s “Unexpected” Answer to Our Prayers will Always be for His Glory and Our Good

**Romans 15:33 ESV
33 May the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

Luke 22:42 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
