“To Be a Blessing”
Jeremiah 29; Daniel 1:8-21
Christ followers seek their city’s welfare.
“Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon:
Jeremiah 29:4
You can either make a point or you can make a difference.
Build Thriving Christian Homes
Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce. Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease.
Jeremiah 29:5-6
Healthy marriages produce higher percentages of healthy kids who grow up to be healthier adults.
How many remain where Jesus is the center of their lives?
If CCH is going to bless and seek the welfare of the city, it’s going to start in your home.
If we are going to seek the welfare of the city we have to advance shared values.
But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile . . .
Jeremiah 29:7
A Value for peace
A Value for prosperity
A Value for the poor that they might be served and released from their poverty.
A Value for kids.
If we are going to seek the welfare of our city . . .
pray for our neighbor’s salvation
But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile . . .
and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.
Jeremiah 29:7
God begins to move.
Our hearts begin to soften.
What could threaten our ability to seek our city’s welfare?
Broke
Bickering
Distracted
Busy
What could threaten you from seeking the city’s welfare?
Beware of Deceivers
For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams that they dream, for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you in my name; I did not send them, declares the Lord.

11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[b] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Why would God send His people into exile?
1. Exile purifies the Church
2. Exile grows the Church
3. To remind us that we are here to be a blessing as we wait for Jesus Christ
God is in Control of whoever is in Control.
Benediction
The Day the church shuts its mouth is the day the church surrenders the war to the father of lies who will gladly do all the talking. The Day the church takes even one step back from the priority that seeks to love and bless our neighbors and city, is the day the church dies. So let us advance with Transforming Truth and Dynamic Compassion. New Day, Same God, Ever-changing You.
