Today we joyfully welcome back Rev. Dr. Guy Sayles who provided excellent leadership as our interim preacher during 2015-2016.

Prelude: Jon Brannon

Welcome to Worship: Rev. Eric S. Porterfield
Call to Worship: Rev. DaVontaé Edwards
Rev. Alicia Porterfield

Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore.
From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.
Who is like the Lord our God, who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap;
The Lord seats them with princes, with the princes of his people.
God settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord! Amen.
~from Psalm 113

Invocation and Lord’s Prayer: Doug Sheils
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

*Hymn of Praise: No. 210
“Praise to the Lord, the Almighty”

Our Future: Rachael Gibson

Song of Thanks: “All the Way Our Savior Leads Us”
Crosby/Lowry, adapted

All the way our Savior leads us; what have we to ask beside? Can we doubt His tender mercy, who through life has been our guide? Heavenly peace, divinest comfort, here by faith in Him to dwell! For we know, whate‘er befall us, Jesus doeth all things well. For we know, whate‘er befall us, Jesus doeth all things well.

All the way our Savior leads us: cheers each winding path we tread, gives us grace for every trial, feeds us with the living bread. Though our weary steps may falter, and our souls athirst may be, gushing from the Rock before us, lo! a spring of joy we see; gushing from the Rock before us, lo! a spring of joy we see.

All the way our Savior leads us; oh the fullness of His love! Perfect rest to us is promised in our Father‘s house above. When our spirits, clothed, immortal, wings their flight to realms of day, this our song through unless ages: “Jesus led us all the way!“ This our song through endless ages: Jesus led us all the way!“
Prayer of Thanks: Rev. DaVontaé Edwards

Choral Anthem
“My Shepherd Will Supply My Need“
Isaac Watts/ V. Thomas, arr.

My Shepherd will supply my need, Jehovah is His name. In pastures fresh He makes me feed beside the living stream. He brings my wandering spirit back when I forsake his ways. He leads me for His mercy‘s sake and paths of truth and grace.

When I walk through the shades of death, the presence is my stay. One word oft he supporting breath drives all my fears away. They hand, inside of all my photos death still my table spread. My cup with blessings overflows, then oil anoints my head.

The short provisions of my God attend me all my days, Omae the house be my abode and all my work be praise. There would I find a settled rest while others go and come, no more a stranger or a guest, but like a child at home.
Sermon: “Living Between Past and Future”

Hymn of Response: No. 686

Who We Are

"The church on the corner with the big columns" is who some say we are. While blessed with a building, the life of our church expands beyond these six columns.
We are a family of faith striving to love God and love others, acknowledging the greatest commandments as defined by our Lord. These are the foundation for our existence; and everything we do, whether inside or outside these columns, must reflect love of our God and love for others.
The four inner columns represent the four primary areas of the life of our church: Inreach, Outreach, Spiritual Growth, and Missions. To learn more, visit our site.
