Week Fifteen:

Starting with Jesus and going down the line, the Bible is mostly about people whose faith in God not only does not prevent their suffering but very often causes their suffering. No one consoles someone else in the Bible with, "God won't give you more than you can handle."

1 Corinthians 10:13 doesn't say, "Expect minimal suffering because God won't give you anything you can't bear." Paul says, "Don't let yourself rationalize sliding into sin because God will not allow temptation to come your way without providing a way out for you.”

If you have ever suffered pain, you have a contribution to make to others, not from your strength but from your scar, your limp, your wound, and your inadequacy. How we move beyond our temptation and pain both, begins with an understanding of the Gospel.
