Dig Deeper:
1. Through this series, have you discovered other sayings that you thought the Bible says but it actually doesn’t? Is so, what are they?
2. Is money a sensitive topic for people to discuss with others? If so, why?
3. Read 1 Timothy 6:10a. It doesn’t say “money is the root of all evil.” What does it say? What is the real issue when it comes to money?
4. Why do you think God set up our world to include money? Why does the Bible mention money so much (over 2,000 times!)? Why does money matter to everyone?
5. Have you ever heard someone say, “If I had more money, then I would finally be at peace”? Would you agree with that statement? Why or why not?
6. How is the world’s view of money different than God’s view of it?
7. Read 1 Timothy 6:6-8. What is contentment? Why is contentment so difficult at times?
8. Describe a time when you have lived with very little. Discuss examples of how you saw God always providing despite your circumstances.
9. Can you be discontent and give thanks to God at the same time? How does contentment help us show gratitude?
10. What areas outside of money have you also had to learn to be content in?
11. How can we grow in the learned disciplines of both gratitude and contentment?
12. Read Hebrews 13:5. Why do we naturally compare ourselves to others? How does comparison rob us of contentment?
13. Read 1 Timothy 6:9-10. Have you ever seen someone that has “wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs” because of their love of money?
14. Read Deuteronomy 8:17-18. How does knowing God provides all things for us change your perspective about your role in gaining wealth?
15. Read Luke 12:15. How can we “watch out and be on guard against all greed”?
16. Read 1 Timothy 6:17. When compared to the rest of the world, do you consider yourself rich? What can we do to place our hope in God and not in the uncertainty of wealth?
17. Read Matthew 6:24. Why is it impossible to serve both God AND money? How is it possible to serve God WITH money?
18. Read 1 Timothy 6:18. What does it mean “to do what is good”? What does it mean “to be rich in good works”? What does it mean “to be generous and willing to share”?
19. Read Mark 12:41-44. How is being generous linked to trusting God? How is being generous linked to God wanting a relationship with us?

Live It Out:
We find life when we invest our life in what outlasts our life. Discuss and apply to your life how to be free from the love of money in each of these areas:

1. Prayer: To trust God, you must be in a relationship with Him. You must know Him. How are you spending time with God lately? How can you grow in trusting Him?

2. Contentment: Are you find yourself being content in your life? If not, what is hindering you from doing so? Look for areas of your life where you might compare it to others, and identify why you feel the need to compare. Consider beginning a gratitude journal where you write down daily what you are thankful for (even the little things we take for granted).

3. Combat pride: Is your worth connected to your wealth? Are you led down dark paths because of greed? Is so, focus on memorizing scripture like Deuteronomy 8:17-18 and Luke 12:15 so that it will help you guard your heart and discover where your identity is found.

4. Be generous: Money and resources are tools given to us by God to accomplish His mission in the world. As stated in 1 Timothy 6:18, assess your resources to find out how you can be “rich in good works” and be “generous and willing to share.”
