From chapter 7 on, the book is very different. It doesn’t continue the chronology of events, but reverts back in time to a series of visions that Daniel had. It’s not history: it is prophecy. In a sense, the first half of the book gives credentials of the prophet, the reliability of the messenger. The second half gives his message. Now, the message of chapter 7 through chapter 12 is really not new…It’s the message that God is sovereign.
