Jesus the Philosopher: Answers for Life
Luke 18:35-43, August 18-21, 2022

Prayer Requests:

Group Discussion: Martin Luther: “Faith is a free surrender and a joyous wager on the unseen, unknown, untested goodness of God.” What do you think of Martin Luther’s statement, agree or disagree or modify???
Read out loud: Luke 18:31-34

What do we do when we meet Jesus?

#1. We follow behind Him.
Pastor Rob Bell made popular the Jewish Rabbinic statement, “Covered in the dust of the Rabbi.” It is history that future Rabbis basically lived with their Rabbi mentor and went with him everywhere. So covered in the dust of the Rabbi meant the student became like the teacher. Who has had the most spiritual influence on your life other than Jesus? Did you have a Sunday School Teacher, Small Group Leader, or Pastor you connected with really well and felt their impact in your life? How and why?

#2. We worship before Him.
How would you define worship? Do you worship only when you’re at church on Sunday? Can you worship at home, at work, while driving? Where do you feel most connected to God? When you come to GateWay do you connect with God emotionally through music and intellectually through the sermon or do you experience it differently?

#3. We witness of Him.
Do you have a product you’ve used that performed so well that you recommended it to others? I had a friend who bought a car that was a lemon and he told everyone not to buy that type of car. Do you have a tendency to tell people not to buy bad products or do you tell people about the good products? Take your Oikos card and talk about people you’d like to become followers of Jesus and write down their names.

Family Time: Read the story of the blind man to your kids. Have them line up in single file behind you and put their hand on the shoulder of the person in front of them. Have everyone close their eyes and you keep yours open and lead them on a trip through the house or yard. Ask them afterward how it felt to be led around blind. Take some time to pray and thank God for eyesight.
