Revelation 19:10
For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. ESV

2 Peter 1:19
We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place. NIV

JESUS COMMANDS JOHN TO WRITE

John 1:17
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. NIV

John 1:19
Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later. NIV

Revelation 1:20
The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. NIV

Some commentators say the seven churches of Revelation 2-3 represent seven periods of church history

The church is represented by a lamp stand (Revelation 1:20)

Matthew 5:14
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. NIV Revelation 1:19 and what will take place later. NIV

Will take place (meta tauta): After these (things), beyond this

JOHN IS CALLED UP TO HEAVEN

John 4:1
After this (meta tauta) I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this (meta tauta). NIV

Church mentioned 19 times in Revelation 1-3

The church not mentioned in Revelation 4-18

Revelation 3:22
Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. NIV

Three divisions of Revelation: What John has seen (chapter 1), the things which are (chapters 2 and 3), the things which will take place after (chapters 4-22)

The rapture is an event FOR the church

John 14:1-3

1 Corinthians 15:51

1 Thessalonians 4:15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. NIV

1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. NIV

1 Thessalonians 4:17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. NIV

HARPAZO: To catch up, to take something by force, to snatch away, to pluck

1 Thessalonians 4:17 We shall be snatched away forcibly in masses of saints having the appearance of clouds for a welcome meeting with the Lord in the lower atmosphere. Wuest Translation

Doesn't get any more graphic than that. Doesn't get any plainer than that.

Jesus comes FOR the church at the rapture. Jesus returns WITH the church at His second coming

Matthew 25:13
So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return. NLT

Revelation 4:1 come up here.

Revelation 6-18 is a seven-year tribulation period of judgement by God JOHN IS OVERCOME BY GLORY.

Revelation 4:2
At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. 3 And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne. 4 Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. 5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God. Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. NIV

This throne room scene is similar to what we see in

Isaiah 6:1-5, Ezekiel 1:4-28 and Daniel 7:9-14

John sees 24 elders on 24 thrones around God’s throne (Revelation 4:4,10) The 24 elders are representative of the church

Revelation 5:9.
And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons (us) from every tribe and language and people and nation. NIV

Revelation 4:1
After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. NIV

John 10:9
I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved. ESV.

John 14:2
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. NIV

Revelation 4:8
Day and night they (the living creatures) never stop saying: “ ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.” 9 Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: 11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
