Wonder and Awe: Connection

Wonder and Awe: Connection

This fall, ECC is launching LifeGroups as a key component in our spiritual growth and in our life together as sisters and brothers in Christ. We will be looking at Acts 2.42-47 and other passages as we explore the nature of transformation at the intersection of intentionality, connection, and community. Join us! We worship together each Sunday morning at 10:30am on YouTube, on our Worship page (ecclife.net/worship), or in person.

CHOSEN: A World Vision Event

ECC currently sponsors 114 children in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through Covenant Kids Congo powered by World Vision. We'd love to add many more children to that list later this month. On Sunday, August 28, we will host CHOSEN, a World Vision event inviting us to prayerfully consider sponsoring a child in the Congo for $40 a month. Plus, in the past, we have been given pictures of children whom we chose. This time, however, the children of the Congo will choose us! We invite you to partner with World Vision to support comprehensive and sustainable development that is already leading to holistic transformation for children and their families in the Congo.

Wonder & Awe: Connection
August 14, 2022
Tenth Sunday after Pentecost
Pastor Stacey Littlefield

Acts 2:42-47

Philippians 3:4-10

Write your main take away from this week's sermon below:

Philippians 3:11-14

A question to ponder.
If you had 6 Lego bricks, each measuring 2x4 dots, how many different combinations of those bricks could you possibly make of those 6 bricks? Write your estimate below (Googling is cheating!)
A question to ponder.
Has the practice of "connecting with God" been a part of your life? If so, in what ways do you best "connect" with God?

If such things are new to you, what do you think of when you hear that phrase?
Question to ponder.
Re-read the Apostle Paul's words in Philippians 3.4-6, below. What reasons do we Christians sometimes have for placing "our confidence in the flesh", in our own abilities and "righteousness"?

Philippians 4.4-6
If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless.
Question to ponder.
What do you think the Apostle Paul means when he speaks of his desire to "gain Christ" (Philippians 3.7-11)? What might that look like, practically speaking? For Paul? Or for you?
Ignatian Prayer for Grace
I pray for the following grace: to know Jesus more intimately, to love him more intensely, and to follow him more closely.

Prayer for the Tenth Sunday after Pentecost
Grant to us, Lord, we pray, the spirit to think and do always those things that are right, that we, who cannot exist without you, may by you be enabled to live according to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
