Focus Scripture: Psalm 23
Who doesn't like stuff? I think we all do! What do we actually think our stuff is going to bring us? This passage says that Jesus is all I need- but why do I feel like I still need more?
If this passage is true (and it is!) it means that Jesus can end your chase for STUFF.
Stuff isn't the only thing we chase. Many of us chase the "perfect life" where we don't have all the issues that we have today. We believe that at the end of the tough thing we are going through now, or the beginning of the new circumstances that are ahead of us, we will have peace. We might...but it won't last because that's not what we need.
If this passage is true (and it is!) it means that Jesus can end our chase for perfect life circumstances.
If we look at the life of the sheep we can see that its life is peaceful, and it is well taken care of. The sheep probably doesn't have everything it always wants, and its life certainly doesn't have the absence of trouble. Its life is not perfect. This is a picture of the Christian life.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE EVERYTHING...TO HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED.
YOUR LIFE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT TO BE PEACEFUL.
When you find yourself chasing after something else that is not Jesus and expecting it to bring you peace...
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
When you are tempted to chase after something thinking that it will bring you something that deep down you know it can't...pray for peace. Pray that God would lead you at this moment. Pray that he would supply what it is that you are seeking out elsewhere.
The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
