"The Church - A Healing Place" - Karl Jones
Intro: What must have been one of the most attractive aspects of the ministry of Jesus was His ability and willingness to heal anyone and every illness.
•Imagine the _____________ when people heard about Jesus and His ability to heal.
•Imagine the ____________ to get loved ones who were sick and dying to Jesus.
•We note the ______ with which Jesus healed; no illness was a problem for Jesus!
While the multitudes rejoiced at all the healings, what is sad is how the religious
leaders condemned and criticized Jesus because He healed. Rather than see the wonder of His works, all they could do was grumble and complain. When God and God’s people do good things and the response is only grumbling and complaining, there is something wrong with that person’s religion!
Just as Jesus freely healed damaged bodies and broken lives, so the Church today should be a place of healing.
I. The Church – God’s Hospital for the Soul
1. In the context of Luke 5:31-32, we see that _________________ is ___________.
A.) What must be acknowledged – whether we like it or not – is that _____
______! It is a deadly spiritual disease! (James 1:13-16)
B.) This is why both John the Baptist and Jesus began their preaching
with, “_________ for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.”
2. Spiritually, there can be no ___________ without _______________.
3. For the Church to be a place of healing, we cannot ____________ what God’s Word __________ and ____________ and declares will lead to spiritual death.
II. The Church – God’s Rehab for the Recovering
1.The Church is not made up of _________ ________, only those who have been ____________. If we are honest, we all ___________ with overcoming sin. (Romans 7:15-ff).
2.God designed the Church to be a place where all would be:
A.) _____________ to continue pursuing holiness and Godliness.
B.) _______ ____ when we stumble and fall. (Gal. 6:1-2)
C.) Treated as if in a rehab, where people are not __________ at for not doing better. They are constantly ____________ and _________ to do better.
3. The Church – our message and spirit should never be “How _____ _____ are or
have been.” It should always be, “How ________ you can be with God’s help.”
III. The Church – God’s Healing for the Broken and Wounded
1.How did Jesus heal the hurting? Not by ___________ __________ ________!
2.Unfortunately, we cannot instantly heal as Jesus did, but we can offer _______, _______, and ________. This is God’s medicine for the wounded and broken.
3.Nothing heals like God’s _______ and _______, freely offered in this church!
