The Image of the Invisible | What's My Motivation?

Seeing is believing. The breathtaking majesty of creation draws our eyes upwards in a search for our creator, but it is in Jesus we most clearly see what we’ve all been looking for. Join us for this eye-opening journey through the book of Colossians.

Welcome to Mission Hills!

Mission Hills is a church family—a family who wants to extend to you the same love, hope, and joy that we have received. We know that we cannot be all things to all people. But we do want to be one thing to all people. We want to be the place where anyone, of any age, of any level of spiritual maturity, of any economic class, of any ethnicity, of any church background—or no church background—can meet God in a way that transforms their life…forever!

If you are a first time guest, we would love to meet you! Stop by the Welcome Center for a free gift.

Religions says believing + behaving -> belonging.
For we were all baptized by one Spirit to form one body - whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free - and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. (1 Corinthians 12:13)

Relationship says believing -> belonging -> behaving
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence. (Col 2:23)
Rules don't change motivations.

Colossians 3:1-8

This is an invitation to look in the mirror, not out the window.
A - Sexual immorality
A - Impurity
M - Lust
M - Evil desires
M - Greed

M - Anger
M - Rage
M - Malice
A - Slander
A - Filthy language
Put to death those kind of motivations so you can put aside those kind of actions.
Put to death
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ (Col 3:1a)
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. (James 4:7-8)
set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Col 3:1b-4)
What are your biggest danger zones?
Are you a burro or a thoroughbred?
Feed what you are destined for, not what you were delivered from.
We grow what we feed.
What do you need to start feeding in your life?
What are you getting right in your relationship with Jesus?
What do you need to start starving out of your life?
What are your biggest danger zones?
What guardrails do you need to put in place to keep you out of those danger zones?
What guardrails do you need to put up to keep you out of those danger zones.
