Week Eleven: Women Part 2

When Jesus dies for our sin and rises from the grave, He sends His Holy Spirit to be our advocate, our counselor. The Holy Spirit is not just limited now to prophets, the Spirit now dwells in those who have placed our faith in Jesus. In the New Testament we see Jesus’ followers start to change the world, men and women both. The first people Jesus revealed Himself to after the resurrection were women, which scholars today say is some of the best evidence for the resurrection.
The Apostle Paul affirms:

• Public ministry for women. Paul expressly says in 1 Cor 11:5, "Women pray and prophesy “in the congregation."

• Women and men are equally called and mutually interdependent. In Genesis 1, the text is very careful to say God makes the man and the woman in His image and gives the man and the woman the mandate to rule and steward His earth.

• Women and men are to treat one another with dignity. The point is: in Christ and in the community of Jesus, we no longer live for ourselves. We have died ourselves. We now live for Jesus and one another.
Discussion Starters

• Describe the women who have influenced your life and walk with God.
• How have you experienced women not being treated as God originally designed them to be, both outside and inside the church?
• How does Jesus interact with women in scripture?
• How has gender disrupted unity in worship in today’s culture?
• Today, how is God restoring what has been lost?
• How can we better worship alongside the opposite sex?
