Mission Recap

Mission Recap

Each year our middle school and high school students serve on a mission trip in order to spread the good news of Jesus Christ, and to be a blessing to others in His name. Even as the focus is on serving others, our youth return home excited and encouraged, and end up being blessed and served more than they could’ve imagined.

Whose example do you follow?

1 Timothy 4:8-12

This is not new feedback…every year…our groups work so hard and so selflessly…

The example that is set by these teens…
1) Comforting others usually means being willing to be uncomfortable yourself

These young men and women and their adult mentors braved the heat and some unbelievable conditions to love someone they didn’t even really know…

How often do you like to step out of your comfort zone?
*Henri Nouwen- “Jesus came precisely to disturb our routines, comforts, and apathy."

*The Gospel comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comfortable…
Sometimes we confuse what God wants for us…

We know that God wants to give us comfort…but does he really want us to be comfortable?
2) You can’t lose when you love others

In a world that loves winning…loves being the best…

But also functions a lot out of a scarcity mindset…

* “I see how not everyone has the things that I have. God will help provide what they need and provide the help sometimes through other people.”
By helping this week, my faith grew stronger. It blessed me to bless someone else.

Love for others can take many shapes

3. Fix your attention on Jesus
*Morning devos Psalm 147:8
*Lunch devos
*Worship in evenings

*Jesus is the constant…we are the variable…

Who’s example are you following? But the last turn
*“Who is following your example?”

You are a missionary… not at some future date when your life is “all together”But now…in the midst of the brokenness and the vulnerability.
