In this portion of God’s Word, the Israelites have just gotten into the promised land. It would have been easy to rush off to the next step, but they don’t. Instead, they are faithful to what God calls them to do. By taking a look at this story, we too can see what we are to do after God works in our lives.

1. Remind yourself and others of what God has done
Joshua 4:1-7, 19-24, Deut. 6:12, 8:2, Is. 46:9, Ps. 77:11, 143:5, Ecc. 12:1

2. Resist rushing off to the next step
Joshua 5:1, Is. 40:31, Ps. 27:14, 2 Pet. 3:8, Lam. 3:25-26, Prov. 28:20

3. Radically adhere to what God asks of you
Joshua 5:2-12, 4:12-13, 1 Sam. 12:24, Luke 16:10
Reflection Questions

1. Read Joshua 4:1-7. Here, Joshua makes sure that Israel will remember what God has done for them in the past. For Israel, it was a pile of rocks. What would it look like for you to set things into your life that would remind you of what God has done for you? How would it affect your life if you were to implement those things that would help remind you of what God has done for you?

2. Read Joshua 5:1-2. It would have been tempting for Joshua to have led the Israelites directly into battle in order to gain the promised land. However, instead, he sets up memorial stones, and obeys God’s command to circumcise the men of Israel. Do make the mistake of rushing into the next season too quickly? What would help you to be more in line with God’s timing instead of your own?

3. Read Joshua 5:2-7. Here, Joshua and the Israelite nation radically adhere to God’s command. It is an example of profound faithfulness. Not only is it an unpleasant step, but they are also leaving themselves venerable to enemy’s attacks. What do you need to implement in your life in order to have this level of faithfulness?

4. What is your biggest take away about how this passage affects your life? What do you need to work on? Who can you share this with and ask you to keep you accountable to accomplishing this?

Groups

We believe that our faith grows best when we surround ourselves with other believers. That’s why we encourage everyone to be a part of one of our groups, where we can intentionally share our lives with one another. There is a Sunday School group meeting on Sunday mornings before Service at 9:30. Our small groups are also in the process of starting for the fall. If you would like to be a part of one, please reach out to Pastor Josh.
