“Commanded To Worship” - Karl Jones
God commands us to worship Him. Our praise of Him and His Greatness are not things that he merely suggests at. If, or when, people act like this (when they talk about how great they are, reminding us of all their accomplishments, make demands in how we should praise them) we are disgusted. And the tendency for all people when we try to define, or get a sense of God, is to do so in our own, easily twisted, human understanding. And there’s the problem… God is not mortal man… and we are not God.
Exodus 20:1-11
Un“twisting” Our Perspective
•The commands of the Lord are _____ for His _____ ______.
•The ___________ are for ___.
•We don’t worship God to appease or _______ Him… through worship God _________ us.
Isaiah 6:1-8
Why does God command us to worship Him?
•When our worship is ______, we are _______.
•Praise for something we value is the ________ ___________. We were ______ to _______.
•When we praise God our _____ in Him is made __________.
•He ________ is ________.
When we worship anything other than God, we are worshipping lies and “lesser-thans”. God commands us to worship Him to keep us from the danger of serving ourselves. Selfishness is the root of all sin. On the flip-side, selflessness is at the very heart of worship. Our worship is the sacrifice of our will. In worship we submit and we obey. This is the kind of sacrifice that God desires.
Hebrews 13:15-16, 20-21
15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
20 Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21 equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
