Who’s Listening to You?
Start a ripple effect…set free
There are many “prisoners” people who don’t know Jesus, who are listening/watching the way you live YOUR life.
If we want to be a WITNESS for Jesus, we can’t just proclaim Jesus, but our lives should be an EXAMPLE of Jesus.
We can say one thing but live a completely different way.
To be true witnesses, we need to live our lives as an example of Christ and never forget that.
When you read the bible, you will notice that Paul was very serious about being an example of Jesus.
“…follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ”. 1 Corinthians 11:1
Follow me as I follow Jesus
SOMEONE is listening to YOU. They are watching the way YOU live YOUR life.
5 main areas that Jesus instructs us to be an example like him:
1. BE AN EXAMPLE IN SERVING
12 When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. John 13:12-16
2. BE AN EXAMPLE IN SUFFERING
20 For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. 21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:20-21
3. BE AN EXAMPLE IN LOVING
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4. BE AN EXAMPLE IN FORGIVING
…bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Colossians 3:13
And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
Luke 23:34
5. BE AN EXAMPLE IN LIVING
...and by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. 1 John 2:3-6
If you don’t have a desire to know God’s word, the Bible, then you will never know how to truly live in Jesus. To live as he did.
And as you look at these 5 major areas, ask if you’re being an example of Christ:
1.Serving
2.Suffering
3.Loving
4.Forgiving
5.Living
There are people--”prisoners”--who are listening to your life just like the prisoners were listening to Paul and Silas.
WWJD
The Lord has called you to do something wonderful with your life.
Let’s be witnesses not just with the way we talk but how we live our lives.
