Quieting Practice:
A quieting practice is finding peace for your body and soul, which then grows your awareness that you are in God's presence. This is a practice of receiving, trusting, and approaching God as glad to be with you in both the joys and distractions in your life.

Here's how to practice:
1. Begin by noticing your lack of quiet. Note the things causing you stress or anxiety. Acknowledge what is taking up space in your mind.

2. Name your distress and desires. Name what you are feeling (remember the emotional check-in?), or longing for.

3. Calm your body. For this practice, take a deep breath in and exhale "When I am afraid, I will trust in you, O Lord." Repeat this a few times until you feel a sense of calm.

4. Calm your soul. Place both hands open in front of you. In your left hand, imagine holding a negative thing you noticed at the beginning of this exercise. On the right hand, recall a joyful memory. Ask Immanuel God what He wants you to know about both the appreciation memory and the negative feeling. "Immanuel, what do you want me to know about this? How do you feel about me?"

The beauty of the Quieting Practice is that it ties in all the practices explored during Immanuel Lifestyle - from exploring emotions to rehearsing joyful memories, to practicing presence and hearing God's voice. As you continue to integrate these practices into your daily life, expect that your friendship with God and with others will grow in joy!
Where are you shaken?

______________ will not be shaken, for he is right beside _____________.
No wonder _______________’s heart is glad, and _____________’s tongue shouts his praises!
Prayer For The Church

We the church, Your church
Thank you for your humble headship
Ask you for your helpful hand
Pursue your healing heart
Spirit of the living God, breathe on us,
among us, through us.

All of our adoration and our affection
Our inward thoughts and our outward action
Our practice of presence
All just to be with you, Jesus, now and forever.

All of our care and our conviction
Our full joy and our transforming disposition
Our individual stories and our congregational demonstration
All just to be with you, Jesus, now and forever.

Standing shoulder to shoulder, walking in your direction
Sitting knee to knee, praying for your compassion
Serving feet to feet, following your mission
May we become more like you, Jesus.

From yesterday, we perceive who you have always been
For today, we receive all of who you are
Forevermore, we believe for who you say you will always be
May we become more aware of you, Jesus.

In our encounters and dialogues, would your befriending spirit move through us
With strangers, neighbors, enemies, and friends, would your radical kindness
move among us
For those hurting and those hurt, would your healing presence move in us
May we become more like you, Jesus.

Would you meet us and call us in our homes with hospitality
Would you shape us and form us in our communities with humility
Would you teach us and send us out into the world with multiplicity
For Your Kingdom come, your will be done.

Would we be willing to be interrupted for your glory
Would we be ready to be disrupted for your peace
Would we be able to be reconstructed for what you’re doing
Give All Thanks To God.

As we go and walk and live
Right now in this moment
With every movement and breath
Give us eyes to see who you see
Give us ears to hear what you say
Give us hands to hold what you give
Give All Thanks To God.

May the places we go, the people we meet
The times we count, the breaths we breathe
The stories we tell, the moments we seize
Give All Glory To God.
Commissioning Prayer

As we go out to our corners of the world and beyond, let’s pray for boldness. We see examples of this boldness in Acts 4, as Peter and John faced persecution and seemingly insurmountable challenge. The men prayed that God would give them boldness in their mission.

Peter and John prayed for boldness in their mission, and God answered their prayer. We, too, can pray for boldness as we go out into the world to share the gospel. May God give you courage to share the story of what Jesus has done in your life. May you have boldness as you connect with people in your life who are far from God. May you walk in the confidence of Jesus wherever you go.As we go out to our corners of the world and beyond, let’s pray for boldness.
