ECC-Evangelical Covenant Church
In the Beginning: Watershed
In Luke 24, right after his resurrection, Jesus meets two disciples on the road to Emmaus. They do not recognize Jesus and have not grasped what God has done in and through his suffering and death, to say nothing of his resurrection. Jesus then explains to them how all through Scripture, this has been God's plan. By doing so, Jesus has given us a new way to read Scripture--in light of his own life, death, and resurrection. Join us as we walk through the first 11 chapters of Genesis and ask how these passages point us to Christ. We worship together each Sunday morning at 10:30am on YouTube, on our Worship page (ecclife.net/worship), or in person.

June 26, 2022
Third Sunday after Pentecost
Pastor Stacey Littlefield
Write your main take away from this week's sermon below:
A question to ponder.
What is the biggest question you might have for the account of Noah, the flood, and the ark? Where might you find the answer? With whom can you talk about these things to hear someone else's perspective (even if they disagree with yours)?
A question to ponder.
Read Jeremiah 18.1-11. How might this word from the Lord to and through Jeremiah align with, nuance, or help us interpret the flood narrative in Genesis 6-9?
A question to ponder.
Just for fun, of the three basic interpretations of Genesis 6.1-4, below, which one makes most sense to you? How would you defend your decision if someone asks why you to justify your position?

Potential Interpretations:
1) The "sons of God" are angelic beings.
2) The "sons of God" are kings or rulers.
3) The "sons of God" are descendants of Cain.
A question to ponder.
If someone were to ask you, in your own words, how would you explain God's actions in Genesis 6-9 as "good", rather than evil? Or, put another way, how would you explain God's actions as mercy, rather than judgment?

The Bible Project: Genesis 1-11

Third Sunday after Pentecost
O Lord, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your loving-kindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
