John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
The ordinary becomes extraordinary in Christ.
John 2:1-2 (NIV)
On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
Jesus performed His first miracle in a home, at a wedding, and at a feast.
The life of a Christian should be marked with fullness and joy.
John 2:3-5
When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Jesus transitions from private family member to public Messiah, committed to the will of His Father.
John 2:6-7
Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.
The water pots were not intended for drinking, but for bathing. This foreshadowed the superiority of Jesus’ sacrifice over the Jewish sacrificial system.
James 4:8
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
We obey God and trust Him with the outcomes and consequences.
James 1:22
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
John 2:8-10
And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. 9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”
People start with better that becomes bitter; God starts with ordinary and makes it extraordinary.
This miracle is an example of a good Messiah working a miracle to show just how good He really is.
John 2:11
This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
The miracles of Jesus always had a purpose.
John 21:25
Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
