Our series this month is Four Chairs.
We are using the chairs as visual symbols of where every person might find themselves seated, spiritually speaking.
It helps you to see your spiritual life in the form of a flow chart. You can better identify where you have come from, where you are currently, and where the next step of your spiritual journey should be.
When you can honestly say this is where you are spiritually, you can then make some plans that will honor God and help others.

So far we've discussed the first 3 of the 4 chairs.
Let's do a little review...
1. What type of person do each of these 3 chairs represent?
2. What are some necessary things to move from Chair 1 to Chair 2?
3. What 3 types of healthy people are said to be in Chair 2, and how would you describe them?
4. How are Chair 3 people different from Chair 2 people?

Fourth Chair: The DISCIPLER
The word disciple comes form the root word of discipler.
The Greek term (ma-tah-ta'es) which is translated disciple, refers generally to any student, pupil, apprentice, or adherent of a person or cause.
In the ancient world, however, it is most often associated with people who were devoted followers of a great religious leader or teacher of philosophy.
Mark 10:32a
A discipler in the Bible and here at Grace is "someone who takes a person at a differing level of maturity and teaches, models, equips, and coaches them to be a discipler of someone else."
This process is seen in the life of Paul & Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:2.

Each chair was chosen to visually communicate its purpose and unique characteristics.
First Chair: A bench allows us to see how a person moves from being far from God to being near, by repenting and having faith in Jesus' work on the cross.
Second Chair: A comfy chair allows for extended comfort, security, learning, and fellowship with others.
Third Chair: A hard plastic shell chair goes with a classroom environment in which a person is regularly trained and then gets up and goes into the real world.

Our fourth chair was chosen to communicate height...not in the sense of being superior, but being in position whereby you can see what is going on in the lives of the people around you.
Just as the Bible talks about watchtowers (Isaiah 21:8 [NASB]), we use the stool to communicate this same thought.

As you walk through the life of Jesus, you see Him as a Four Chair person. He had the role of being an equipper or trainer of those who followed Him.
Jesus used long term relationships to get close with people. He did this to be a person who created a movement of disciples who would later make disciples.
John 4:4-50

A Four Chair discipler has people at each of the other 3 chairs to whom they are ministering and moving along, when this takes place, a movement results.
This is exactly what the Lord commanded us to do in Matthew 28:18-20.

The purpose of this series is to help you identify where you currently are spiritually. Ultimately each one of us will stand in front of the Lord and account for our life.
First Chair: SEEKERS
According to Jeremiah 2:13 they have rejected God and are attempting to live their life as their own little "g" god. People are generally really lost or religiously lost.
We move out of the first chair when we repent of our sins and wholeheartedly trust Jesus as the only way to God. This comes when we humble ourselves before the cross and ask for His forgiveness.

Second Chair: Believers
We learned in the second sermon of the series that many are unhealthy and have to make a decision to become healthy.
There are 3 types of healthy believers:
1. New Believers are learning their identity, security, and the need for purity.
2. Growing Believers are discovering God's authority on their life, how to live in community, and the essentials of maturity, evidenced by serving in their church.
3. Maturing Believers are prioritizing their life around generousity, ministry, and eternity.

Third Chair: Workers
These are people who have a desire to reach those outside of the church. Such a person has to be trained in skills to do so, and then create and take advantage of opportunities to influence those we know as seekers and believers who are maturing in their faith.

Do you enjoy quilting?
Holly Paul is checking to see if there is interest from the church family (and beyond) to make quilts for people who are sick, in need, or for new babies. She has extra sewing machines, so don't let that stop you from participating. Email Holly (colinholly21@yahoo.com) if you are interested or if you have questions.
