1 Peter 5:7

From The Pastor's Desk:

THE NEED FOR MUCH FRUIT

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
(John 15:5)

Jesus spoke metaphorically describing himself as the vine and believers as the branches. When believers abide in Christ and Christ abides in believers, the Church grows because believers bring forth much fruit.

Notwithstanding the pandemic which is still ongoing, God wants Christians to bring forth much fruit. Sinners need to be saved more now than ever, and this can happen through evangelism. As the world becomes more corrupt, I encourage each of us to be fruitful (bring forth much fruit). Let’s diligently “Reach Others For Christ,” especially those who are unsaved. In everything we do, we must do it through Christ in order to succeed because Jesus said: “without me ye can do nothing.”

OUR ANNUAL CHECKUP
When you go to a doctor for your annual check-up, he or she will often begin to poke, prod, and press various places, all the while asking, “Does this hurt? How about this?” If you cry out in pain, one of two things has happened: Either the doctor has pushed too hard, without the right sensitivity, or more likely there's something wrong. If something is wrong, the doctor will say, “We'd better do some more tests. It's not supposed to hurt there!”

Likewise, this is the same as when pastors preach on financial responsibility and certain members cry out in discomfort criticizing the message and the messenger. Either the pastor has pushed too hard, or perhaps there's something wrong. If something is wrong, this means we're in need of the Great Physician because it's not supposed to hurt there.”

God’s children give sacrificially like God. He gave His very best: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (Jn. 3:16).

If we want to please God and be blessed, God commands us to give faithfully our tithes (a tenth) and offerings. Remember, 10% belongs to God, and 90% is ours to utilize wisely. At St. John, we currently give in person during Sunday Morning Worship Celebrations, by mailing or dropping off our tithes and offerings at our Administration Building or South Campus, or by giving online through our website (sjmbc.org).

FATHER’S DAY
Sunday is Father’s Day. Traditionally, people tend to celebrate Mother’s Day more than Father’s Day. Although some fathers have failed in their role as a parent, many fathers are to be commended. Let’s inspire and invite fathers to St. John this coming Sunday. Inform fathers that they can worship in person with us at our 9 a.m. Worship Celebration and/or 11 a.m. Worship Celebration. Also, inform fathers that they can view through live streaming Sunday at 11 a.m. or thereafter. For information about our live streaming, please visit our website at sjmbc.org (people can also connect directly via YouTube).

JUNE IS PASTOR EDIFICATION MONTH
Let’s celebrate together throughout the month of June the 28 years that God has blessed St. John with a pastor. Jeremiah 3:15 states: “And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.” These days, the average tenure of a pastor with a congregation is 4-5 years. When we reflect on the pilgrimage and numerous accomplishments St. John has experienced in the last 28 years, we have reasons to praise God and celebrate!

For safety reasons, we will not have an afternoon Pastor Appreciation Worship Celebration; however, we will celebrate Pastor Hall’s 28 years at St. John in our 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Worship Celebrations on this 4th Sunday, June 26, 2022. A guest pastor (one known for inspirational preaching and singing) is scheduled to proclaim God’s word in both of these Worship Celebrations.

Please know that I am so delighted and encouraged already this month by your edifying expressions and your generous monetary gifts. May God bless each of you even more abundantly, for you have truly been a blessing to me. Thank you!

2022 GRADUATES
All St. John graduates should contact Min. Peggy Alexander (Minister of Christian Education) by June 30, 2022, if you are interested in receiving recognition from our church at pmorris@sjmbc.org. If you are graduating from High School and you will be attending college or vocational school, you may qualify for a scholarship. Applications can be picked up at the North Campus, South Campus, or Administration Building.

Also, if you desire to give towards scholarships, you can do so via mail or online at sjmbc.org. This is a rewarding investment!

ST. JOHN FAMILY LIFE CENTER
After a long journey, the City of Richmond has finally granted us building permits to construct our Family Life Center. We hope to begin construction soon! A groundbreaking ceremony is tentatively scheduled for July (the announcement of a specific date is forthcoming). The Family Life Center will be adjacent to our current sanctuary at the North Campus, which will consist of a gymnasium, game room (for the youth), and weight room. Also, a parking lot will be across the street from this edifice.

Many of us made a pledge that we fulfilled, but some have not. I personally thank those of us who have already fulfilled our pledge and others who have made “Building Fund” contributions. I encourage everyone (if you have not already done so) to :

1) $10,000.00 or more
2) $5,000.00 to $9,999.00
3) $1,000.00 to $4,999.00

BIBLICAL RECAPITULATION
As believers, we need to bring forth much fruit which happens when believers abide in Christ and Christ abides in believers (Jn. 15:5). Moreover, have we had our Annual Checkup in 2022? If hearing about giving irritates us, something is wrong. God’s children enjoy giving sacrificially as God did when he gave His only begotten son (Jn. 3:16).

May God bless and sustain each of us.

Your Beloved Servant In Christ,

Dr. Kevin B. Hall, Pastor
