HAPPINESS – A sense of satisfaction based upon circumstance.
JOY – delight, pleasure felt regardless of circumstances. It is deeper than emotional happiness. Joy is based upon God’s immeasurable love for us and on the peace and hope we have because of what Christ has done for us.

Paul’s confidence was in God but also based on SOMETHING. It was based on their previous partnership with him in ministry, the fruit of their changed lives.
When Christianity is reduced to BELIEF, we create a faith neither Jesus or the Apostle Paul would have recognized.
Once we relegate Jesus to the role of FORGIVER OF OUR SINS rather than KING OF OUR LIVES, we open the door to lesser kings that demand our focus and loyalty.
