Confidently Hope

Confidently Hope

Christianity has a long history of being misunderstood, even by Christians! It's all too easy to make it about Jesus PLUS something (good works, moral living, religious activities, emotional experience…). But the book of Hebrews claims that when we add anything to Jesus, we're actually subtracting. It holds up Jesus Christ – fully God, fully human – as the promised Deliverer. He is the One who, alone, saves us from our sinfulness and restores our relationships with God, others, and creation. Its message, the message of Christianity, is really quite simple: Jesus Christ is enough!

Here is a similar diagram of the Tabernacle/Temple to what John showed on Sunday. This image will have increasing significance as the writer continues his discussion about Jesus as our High Priest.

Light bulb: What did you notice from the passage? What stood out to you while reading or listening to it?

Question mark: What questions do you have from the passage? Was there anything you didn’t understand? Was there something you’d like to ask the writer or the Lord from the passage?

Arrow: Where can we take what was said and apply it to our life?

Next Week's Sermon

We'll finally arrive at the Melchizedek passage and find out why the writer of Hebrews is bringing him up! We'll understand how his priesthood resembled Christ's priesthood and how this can make Jesus's priesthood even more precious and meaningful to us. As we treasure him more, our lives will be transformed to look more and more like his!
