For You All Can Prophesy
Empowering A Jehu
2 Kings 9:1 And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramothgilead: 2 And when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber; 3 Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not. (KJV)
2 Kings 9:1 Then Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, “Tie up your garments, and take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead. 2 And when you arrive, look there for Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi. And go in and have him rise from among his fellows, and lead him to an inner chamber. 3 Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head and say, ‘Thus says the Lord, I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and flee; do not linger.” (ESV)
1. WE MUST NOT LET OUR AGE OR INADEQUACIES HINDER US FROM RAISING UP JEHU’S!
"One of the children of the prophets"
"One of the sons"
- The old Testament believer had to search out the prophet for a word, we need only to search out the spirit!
2. WE MUST GIRD UP OUR LOINS.
"Tie up your garments…"
- Modern-day terminology: “Roll up our sleeves”
3. WE MUST EARNESTLY PURSUE AND POSSESS THE ANOINTING.
“…take this box of oil in thine hand”
- There is a specific anointing for each individual to fulfill the specific calling that is upon his or her life.
1 Cor. 12: 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
4. WE MUST NOT EXPECT THEM TO COME TO US, BUT WE MUST GET OUT OF OUR COMFORT ZONES AND GO TO WHERE THEY ARE.
“ 2 When you get there”
- Most Jehu’s never rise out of the company of mediocrity because their leaders/mentors were too insecure to go to where they were and call them out.
5. WE MUST “LOOK FOR” THEM.
"2 When you get there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat"
- Often Jehu’s are difficult to recognize because they are hidden among the crowd.
6. WE MUST GO TO THEM.
“Go to him”
7. WE MUST GET THEM AWAY FROM THEIR PEERS.
“…Go to him, get him away from his companions and take him into an inner room.”
- We cannot call them out from their peers until we first come out from our pews!
8. WE MUST CHALLENGE THEM TO RISE TO NEW LEVELS.
- Jehu’s are waiting for someone to challenge them with a purpose that is worth living and dying for.
9. WE MUST BE WILLING TO CARRY THEM.
“and take him into an inner room.”
- Often they do not have the strength or the desire to go where they must go and will need us to carry them. (New Converts)
10. WE MUST BE ABLE TO LEAD THEM INTO THE INNER CHAMBER OF GOD’S PRESENCE.
“and take him into an inner chamber”
- Our ultimate goal should be to create an opportunity for them to experience a divine encounter with the Lord.
11. WE MUST FREELY POUR THE ANOINTING ON THEIR HEAD.
"3 Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head"
- We must not hoard the anointing but freely give it.
12. WE MUST PROPHESY A “THUS SAITH THE LORD” OVER THEM.
"3 Then take the flask and pour the oil on his head and declare, ‘This is what the Lord says:"
- They do not need our opinions, but they need leaders/mentors that have a word from God to impart faith and direction for them.
