What Dreams Are Made Of - Week 1 - Pastor Nick Grim
Last week we ended our series on Trial but we looked at John 11the story of Lazarus and came to this understanding: Jesus gives life to the living and the dead
This week we start a new series called "What Dreams Are Made Of".
We are taking a break from John and going into Genesis and we are going to the end of it and going to go into a Story about Joseph.
Have you ever designed something and created it for a purpose?
Genesis 37:1-4 Jacob lived in the land of his father's sojournings, in the land of Canaan.
These are the generations of Jacob.
Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father's wives. And Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father. Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a robe of many colors. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.
Joseph’s past:
--His dad has 2 wives and 2 concubines
--He is the favorite of 12 boys
--He gets the best of the best
--His brothers hate him
--His brothers wouldn’t even speak kindly to him
--His brothers in just a little bit will plan on killing him
What from your past, good or bad, makes you believe that you can not be used by God?
Philippians 3:4-14 If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless. But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Your past does not determine your future
Jesus decides your future when you decide to follow him

Genesis 37:5-11 Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more. He said to them, “Hear this dream that I have dreamed: Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf.” His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, “Behold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?” And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind.
Joseph did not come up with his dream--God gave him his dream
Opportunity does not always mean mission.
Have you ever felt like there was something you were supposed to do with your life but no one supported you?
God has designed you to do things you have only dreamed about.
Joseph had to trust in God in really hard times.
God has designed you for a dream he has for you.
Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
---We are going to come back to this scripture a lot because in this series.
When I was going into college I had a lot of people that tried to talk me out of ministry, people said you won’t make any money, you won’t have a lot to show for it, you really want to work with people all the time. I had minsters say well it’s not for everyone. I had friends say do you know how bad of a person you are?
