https://hmcworship.com/im-new/In this passage of God’s Word, we see Jesus’ disciples bickering over which one of them are the greatest. Jesus responds to them, not out of anger, but out of love, and teaches them what it truly means to be great in the Kingdom of God. By taking a close look at this passage of God’s Word, we can learn that God’s standards for greatness, are very different from the world’s standards. Jesus teaches His disciples that:
1. It is better to serve, than to be served
Luke 22:25-27, Matt. 6:1-4, Acts 20:35, Gal. 5:13-14, Matt. 20:28, Mark 10:44-45, John 13:12-14, 1 Pet. 4:10
2. Every believer serves a different role in God’s Kingdom
Luke 22:28-30, Rev. 21:14, 1 Pet. 4:10, Rom. 12:6-8, 1 Cor. 12:4-6
3. None of us are immune to failure
Luke 22:31-34, Ecc. 7:20, Rom. 3:23-24, 5:12, 1 John 1:8-9

Reflection Questions
1. Had you ever heard this taught before? What stood out to you?
2. The disciples got caught into the trap of wanting to be the greatest among themselves. Have you ever fallen into that trap? If so, what was the context of it? Among whom did you want to be the greatest?
3. Jesus told His disciples that it is better to serve than to be served. We also talked about the importance of serving selflessly. How can you serve and serve selflessly better?
4. What is your biggest take away about how this passage affects your life? What do you need to work on? Who can you share this with and ask you to keep you accountable to accomplishing this?

Groups
We believe that our faith grows best when we surround ourselves with other believers. That’s why we encourage everyone to be a part of one of our groups, where we can intentionally share our lives with one another. There is a Sunday School group meeting on Sunday mornings before Service at 9:30. Our small groups are also in the process of starting for the fall. If you would like to be a part of one, please reach out to Pastor Josh.
