The Trial - Week 3 - Pastor Nick Grim

Last week we continued our series Trial and we looked at John 9 and saw that a blind man became the witness. What we pulled from that was Being a witness is hard but Jesus is worth it.

Today we will dive into John 10 so if you have your bibles open up to there that would be great, while your doing that let me ask you a question:

Have you ever had a voice or a sound that brought scared you?

Today we will see why When the enemy attacks Jesus will defend.

John 10:1 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber.

Jesus is the light so he does not operate in darkness

Jesus’s actions are apparent and are filled with grace, hope and love

The enemy will never want to disclose his intention

John 10:2-6 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

Would you know the sound of Jesus’s voice if it called?

Jesus’s voice is only familiar if it is often heard

Jesus’s voice does not tell you what you want to hear but rather what needs to be heard

Jesus’s voice brings comfort and the enemies should give you pause

Jesus’s voice sounds the same as scripture

2 Timothy 3:14-17 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

God’s word will give you answers if you listen and meditate on them

John 10:7-10 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

The enemy does not come directly at you but his intention is to steal, kill and destroy.

Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

The enemy is not physical but his influence will

John 10:11-I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

Jesus, our defender, laid down his life for us

1 Peter 1:18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

John 10:14-15 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Jesus is our defender because he knows us deeply

How often we look for others to know us rather than Jesus

John 10:16-17 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again.

Jesus is our defender because he keeps us united

Jesus describes us as a body

John 10:18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”

Jesus has authority over everything

Our defender allows us to fear nothing because he is in control of everything

John 10:19-21 There was again a division among the Jews because of these words. Many of them said, “He has a demon, and is insane; why listen to him?” Others said, “These are not the words of one who is oppressed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”

Jesus is our defender but he will not always be received

Dominate Thought: When the enemy attacks Jesus will defend
