The Grass Roots of Rearing Children
Our primary task is KNOWING our child
Our primary task is KNOWING our child
Train your children in the ways of the Lord and His Word. Adjust the training so that it is in keeping with the child’s individual giftings or bents (the God-given characteristics built-in at birth) and as maturity comes, your children will NOT leave the training received.
What is the greatest GIFT we could give our young child?
A SENSITIVE spirit!
What are the things that I should open my eyes to see and perk up my ears to hear?
1. Bents Toward GOOD
2. Bents Toward EVIL
1. Bents Toward GOOD
2. Bents Toward EVIL
God interwove our PERSON with our BODIES and made us exactly as He would have us be.
We should know that our children have been put together in an altogether UNIQUE fashion like no one else on EARTH. Even if they are quadruplets. They are unique and different.
Early in life we begin to see these things emerge in our children. So, we as parents need to begin COOPERATING with what we see emerging. Some are coordinated, some are competitive, and some are physically gifted. Some are creative, artistic and messy. Messy seems to all go with being artistic.
If one of the rules of your house is that at no time can there ever be a mess, then it will be difficult for a child who is CREATIVE to be clean at the same time.
Parents, we need to find those God-given and God-made strengths in our children and reach down inside of them and NURTURE them.
Yes, they need to OBEY mom & dad, but we need to have insight as to how we nurture them with their bents given to them by God.
What do we do with GOOD bents? We cooperate with it.
Our precious babies are marked with SIN.
Does SIN happen when they start school or start hanging around with some wrong KIDS? NO! They’re wicked from BIRTH. I know that sounds terrible, but we need to understand.
Our children never had to be taught what it means to do wrong. They come by that NATURALLY.
With all the good and the cultivation that goes on with making the GOOD come to life, I assure you that your child has an EVIL bent.
This calls for counter ACTION. If not, we’re all in big TROUBLE.
Too many parents have chosen to leave EVIL BENTS alone.
What do we do?
1. We lead our children to a knowledge of Jesus Christ by helping them to understand the GOSPEL, the good news and then how much that Jesus LOVES them.
2. Our children must learn to RESPECT authority. If possible, we teach them to love to OBEY. Our children learn that it’s really FREEDOM to keep the rules.
3. We deal with WRONG as it appears and we’re consistent with it until the child learns that wrong pays an awful WAGE.

How does a child learn a good attitude and the willingness to respond well to authority? They will learn it from their MOM and DAD or they will not learn it.
Talk About It
Discussion Questions:
1. Knowing what you now know, what is a good element of how your parents trained you and what could have been done better?
2. Explain in your words how to truly know your child in the way God would want us to know them?
3. What do you think discipline and reward should or could look like for rearing children?
Next Step:
If you could help a parent who is struggling to train up their children in the way they should go, what would you say is most important after studying the Scriptures in this two-part teaching?
